Cellulose is a quarterly international journal devoted to the dissemination of research and scientific progress in the field of cellulose. It includes the chemistry, biochemistry, physics and materials science of cellulose and its derivatives. Lignin is specifically excluded except for those aspects of lignocellulose research where the main theme is cellulose. The same is also true of hemicelluloses.

The Journal is concerned with the pure and applied science of cellulose and also with the development of relevant new technologies. Appropriate areas are fibrous applications (pulp, paper and textiles etc), derivatives (both fibrous and soluble), membranes, liquid crystals, biosynthesis and biogenesis, molecular and crystal structure.
