BioMetals provides an international multidisciplinary forum for new research and clinical results on the structure and function of metal ions, metal chelates, siderophores, metal-containing proteins and biomineral in all biosystems. An important feature of the journal is that the scope encompasses not only humans, but animals, microbes and plants stimulating a cross-fertilization between these fields.

Since its relaunch in 1992, the number of high quality papers being submitted to the Journal has risen significantly, leading to an increase in pages published in 1995.
